EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Society of St. Vincent de Paul District of Evansville is pleased to announce a $1,000 award from Kroger, fulfilled locally by Ruler Foods, to support the Healthy Choice Pantry Program at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.
The Healthy Choice Pantry Program expands access to diabetic-friendly and allergen-sensitive foods for neighbors whose medical or dietary needs can make already-expensive groceries even more difficult to afford. The initiative began as a pilot program and received an overwhelmingly positive response from the community, prompting the Food Pantry to work toward maintaining these specialized foods as a permanent part of its available inventory.
“Families experiencing food insecurity should not have to choose between food that is safe for them to eat and other necessities like medicine, rent, or utilities,” said Ashley Newell, Executive Director of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul District of Evansville. “We are incredibly grateful to Kroger and Ruler Foods for investing in the health and dignity of our neighbors and helping us continue building the Healthy Choice Pantry Program.”
The $1,000 award will help purchase diabetic-friendly, low-sodium, low-sugar, and allergen-sensitive foods for distribution to neighbors in need through the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul District of Evansville serves neighbors throughout southwestern Indiana through its Food Pantry, Thrift Store, eighteen parish-based Conferences, and systemic change programs.
