Volunteer Treasurer and Board Officer

Position Overview

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul District Council of Evansville seeks a qualified financial professional to serve as its volunteer Treasurer. The Treasurer provides governance-level financial oversight, guidance and accountability for the District Council and its charitable ministries, including the Food Pantry and Thrift Store.

The Treasurer works in close partnership with the Staff Accountant and Executive Director. The Staff Accountant prepares the organization’s financial reports, budgets, filings and supporting documentation; the Treasurer reviews that work, provides guidance, identifies concerns and helps communicate financial information to the Society’s governing bodies.

The Treasurer is a voting member of both the District Council and Executive Committee and participates in decisions affecting the financial health, sustainability and mission of the Society.

Desired Qualifications

Strong candidates will possess:

  • Professional experience in accounting, finance, budgeting, auditing, banking or a closely related field.
  • The ability to understand and clearly communicate financial information.
  • Familiarity with financial statements, internal controls and financial compliance.
  • Sound judgment, discretion and a commitment to responsible stewardship.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with staff members, volunteers, auditors and organizational leaders.
  • An appreciation for the Catholic identity and charitable mission of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

CPA licensure, QuickBooks experience, and previous nonprofit or board service are welcomed but not required.

Time Commitment

The Treasurer should anticipate an average commitment of approximately five hours per week, including document review, consultation and meeting participation. The time commitment may increase modestly during budgeting, annual reporting, tax preparation and the annual audit. Much of the work can be completed on a flexible schedule in coordination with the Staff Accountant and Executive Director.

Vincentian Service

The Treasurer must be an active Vincentian or be willing to become one by joining a parish-based St. Vincent de Paul Conference. Formation and support will be provided. Conference membership gives the Treasurer a firsthand understanding of the Society’s spirituality, ministry and service to neighbors in need.

Meetings and Organizational Relationships

The Treasurer regularly attends monthly meetings of the District Council and Executive Committee and participates in Food Pantry and Thrift Store advisory meetings (every other month) when financial guidance or reporting is needed.

This is an unpaid volunteer officer position offering a meaningful opportunity to provide high-level financial leadership while strengthening one of southwestern Indiana’s most established Catholic charitable organizations.
