Evansville, IN — The Society of St. Vincent de Paul District Council of Evansville has officially opened sponsorship opportunities for its 19th annual Friends of the Poor Walk, scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026.
The event serves as a key fundraiser supporting local families facing food insecurity, housing instability, and financial hardship across Vanderburgh, Warrick, Posey, and Gibson counties.
Last year, the Friends of the Poor Walk surpassed its fundraising goal of $40,000. Building on that momentum—and in response to growing need—the organization has set an increased goal of $45,000 for 2026.
That need is significant. In the past year alone, St. Vincent de Paul received over $2.4 million in requests for financial assistance from individuals and families throughout the region.
“Sponsorships are what make this event possible—and more importantly, they make our work possible,” said Ashley V.S. Newell, Executive Director. “The need we are seeing is not slowing down. This Walk allows us to respond in real, immediate ways when families are facing critical situations.”
Funds raised through the Friends of the Poor Walk support a wide range of services, including emergency financial assistance, Food Pantry operations, clothing and household needs, and programs that help families move toward long-term stability.
The event has a long-standing presence in the community, with thousands of participants over the years and more than 9,000 reusable tote bags distributed—many of which continue to be used daily by families across the region.
Local businesses, organizations, and individuals are invited to participate as sponsors at a variety of levels. Sponsorships not only help offset event costs, but also directly fund assistance provided to families in crisis and support grants distributed to local parish conferences.
Early commitments are encouraged to maximize recognition and community impact.
