The District of Evansville of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has hired Mary Reed as their new Manager for the food pantry. Ms. Reed begins her duties Wednesday, June 4th. The current manager, Sr. Donna Marie Herr, OSB, will remain until June 30 to help with the transition. Sr. Donna has served as the Food Pantry Manager for seventeen years after a long career as a teacher at Mater Dei High School in Evansville.
Ms Reed is currently the Assistant Manager at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. She began working for the store in September 2022. Her current duties include overseeing the voucher program and supporting the staff with their daily operations. Ms Reed trains new cashiers on the system and reconciles the till with daily sales. Prior to her work for St. Vincent de Paul, she managed a local Dollar General retail store and was a Center Store Manager at Schnucks responsible for restocking and cleaning. For twenty years, Ms Reed was a stay-at-home mother to her son. She also has a young daughter.
Joe Cook, Executive Director for the Evansville District, said, “I am delighted by the choice of Mary Reed as our new Food Pantry Manager. She has a deep understanding of serving Christ in the poorest of our neighbors. The customers at the Thrift Store all know her name and ask for her when they come in. She’ll take that same care and love to her work at the Food Pantry.”
Mary was received into full communion of the Catholic Church at Easter Vigil 2024, receiving the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. She was baptized and raised in the Nazarene Church tradition. About joining the Catholic Church, Mary said, “The journey of becoming Catholic has made me realize the importance of what I do and how I live.”
In her free time, Mary enjoys spending time with her daughter, especially outdoors, and listening to Christian music. Mary plays guitar and is learning piano. She is a parishioner at All Saints Parish and attends St. Anthony Church.
