The 18th annual Friends of the Poor® Walk to support the work and ministry of the Evansville District Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Evansville State Hospital Grounds. The event will take place rain or shine, beginning at 9:00 AM, with on-site registration opening at 8:00 AM. All walkers will receive a T-shirt and shopping tote with promotional items.
Walkers and donors may designate their financial contributions to a specific parish conference or to the Evansville District Society of St. Vincent de Paul Fund. The Evansville District includes eighteen parish conferences serving Posey, Vanderburgh, and Warrick Counties, as well as St. James and Sts. Peter and Paul Conferences in Gibson County. Funds raised help individuals and families facing financial hardship, especially in the form of homelessness prevention, utility and water bill assistance, and other emergency needs. The Evansville District also operates a food pantry for those experiencing food insecurity and a thrift store that provides clothing, furniture, and household goods to those in need.
In 2024, Vincentians in the Evansville District assisted more than 13,000 neighbors with over $650,000 in financial assistance. Nearly 31,000 individuals received a four-day supply of food through our pantry, and hundreds more obtained clothing and household items through our thrift store.
Participants may register the day of the event or in advance online at https://svdpevansville.org/walk-for-the-poor.
